What is Glycomate?
Glycomate is an effective personal coaching system for those with diabetes. By your side at all times, Glycomate is designed to help you achieve effective control over your health. Just like a reliable Aussie mate, you can count on Glycomate to be always be there.
In 1998, following 16 years of treating patients with diabetes, Brisbane-based General Medical Practitioner Dr. Chrys Michaelides developed the Glycomate concept as a multidisciplinary approach to managing his patients’ diabetes, through regular reviews, feedback, support and education.
In 2004, Glycomate was realised and released by Dr. Chrys Michaelides and his medical team. They developed a management system which quickly drew attention from fellow medical professionals, who also wanted to learn and adopt the Glycomate system for their own patients. Periodic audits of the care of patients found that the system was sustainable and effective, resulting in consistently high rates of well controlled diabetes.
However, over the ensuing years, despite sharing the philosophy via peer group education and community education, progress was slow. Dr. Michaelides’ goal of helping all people with diabetes to achieve well controlled diabetes seemed elusive. It was not possible for him to personally consult with all patients with diabetes, and it was clear that not all GPs were interested in upskilling their knowledge of diabetes management.
Despite these challenges, Dr. Michaelides remained steadfast in his belief that all people with diabetes, from diagnosis onwards, should be educated, encouraged and supported in their active day-to-day management of diabetes.
Dr. Michaelides knew that people needed help to:
Understand that well controlled diabetes is more than blood glucose level control;
Be active in their own care;
Use tools to manage every day;
Learn how to engage with their doctors and other team members;
Improve their confidence;
But most of all – choose well controlled diabetes and the processes that are needed to achieve this.
In 2019, Dr. Michaelides dream of reaching everyone was realised. Glycomate went online – with the arrival of www.glycomate.com. The Glycomate multidisciplinary approach to diabetes is now available to everyone with diabetes in their own homes - through their phones, tablets and computers.
Glycomate uses a multidisciplinary approach to deliver a structured diabetes assessment, care and management programme.
When the individualised plans are followed, participants and their carers can achieve:
Reversal and remission of diabetes in specific circumstances;
Halting and slowing the progress of diabetes;
Well controlled diabetes;
Improved understanding and self-care;
Significant reduction in complications and events related to diabetes;
Increased longevity; and
Improved quality of life.
Our goal is to help people live with well controlled diabetes, through adopting a holistic approach. We have removed the word “diabetic” from our vocabulary, so that, as Hippocrates wisely said in the past, we “focus on the person with the condition not the condition in the person”.
Most importantly, we approach your healthcare from your perspective, rather than being disease-centred.
We go far beyond the traditional approach of just focussing on blood glucose levels. We believe that as a healthcare industry, we must move on from the “A B C (A1c, BP, Cholesterol)” model of diabetes care.
Glycomate’s proven “A B C D E F S” system of well controlled diabetes includes:
A: A1c, Albumin Creatinine Ratio, Activity, Alcohol, Allied Health Professionals.
B: Blood pressure, Body Mass Index.
C: Cholesterol, Complications, Confounders, Creatinine.
D: Diet, Drug review, Dental, Doctor Visits, Distress and Depression.
E: Eyes, Exercise, Education.
F: Feet, Influenza Vaccine.
S: Symptoms, Self-Care, Self-Monitoring, Self-Management, Smoking.
We are committed to providing information, processes and systems based on scientific research studies of the highest quality.
Our vision is to be recognised as the trusted leader in the provision of diabetes health advice to people living with diabetes for effective self-management. Through this process, we envision that all people diagnosed with diabetes who participate in the Glycomate process will live with well controlled diabetes.
Our mission is to help support and coach you to:
Achieve and maintain well controlled diabetes or reversal of diabetes for life;
Reach your personal health goals; and
Prevent the complications that affect wellbeing and quality of life.
